Barbara Jean Widerburg Blau, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. Born on December 16, 1939, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Lucy and LeRoy Widerburg, Barbara’s life was one of love, faith, and service.
Barbara graduated from Olympus High school and attended Salt Lake community college as well as working several secretarial jobs. Her spiritual journey led her to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ventura, California, where she met the love of her life, Gilbert Blau. They were married on April 3, 1970, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they devoted their lives to the service of others, particularly through several building missions while Gilbert built chapels for the Church.
Their missions took them across the globe, including adventures in Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan, and Australia, where they made lifelong memories and created endless stories and slide shows to share with their family. In the midst of these adventures, they welcomed their first child, Justin, who had the privilege of joining them on one of their building missions in Taiwan. After their travels, Barbara and Gilbert expanded their family with three more children: Misa Malinda, Tamara Jean, and Hollie Ann. The family eventually settled in Nibley, Utah, on Hollow Road, where they built their home and raised their children, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Barbara had a deep love for music, and it was an integral part of her life. She played the piano and violin and was a talented singer. Her voice could often be heard filling the home with the hymns, especially while she was vacuuming or early in the morning to wake her children up. She was dedicated to ensuring that her children grew up with music, understanding its power to uplift and inspire.
Barbara's service to the Church was unwavering, and she served in many positions, including as a music chorister, primary teacher, young women's leader, piano player, temple ordinance workers and family history specialists. She was known for her kindness, her selflessness, and her deep love for the gospel of Jesus Christ, which she shared with her children by her example.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert Kent Blau; her parents, Lucy and LeRoy Widerburg; and her siblings, Brian Widerburg, Betty Olsen, and Laree Cheshire.
She leaves behind her children, Justin (Ruth) Blau, Misa (John) Findlay, Tamara (Jon) McKenney, and Hollie (Brian) Ottley; her cherished 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child; and a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Barbara will be deeply missed, but her influence will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be remembered for the love and joy she brought into the world.
