Dawn Marie B Draney passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025. She was born on March 16, 1936, in Lemont, Illinois to Harry E. Baker and Marie D. Baker.
Dawn graduated from Lemont Township High School in 1955. She then went on to attend stewardess school in Cheyenne, Wyoming where she graduated and became a flight attendant. While attending stewardess school, she earned the title of Ms. Congeniality for her class. Dawn was hired by United Airlines as their youngest flight attendant ever, with the hiring officer emphasizing she had better do a good job. Dawn was based as a flight attendant in Salt Lake City, UT, and Boston, MA. She had the unique experience of having Elvis Presley on one of her flights. At that time, only the flight crew was served dinner, while passengers received cookies. Seeing that Elvis was hungry, Dawn gave him her dinner, and in gratitude, he sent her a dozen red roses.
Dawn met Arden Draney while stationed in Salt Lake City, where they lived in the same apartment complex and had a heated moment over a cut-down Christmas tree. They were married on September 20, 1958. After they were married, Dawn and Arden moved to Logan, Utah, where they were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Tyla and Tennly. Dawn continued her education and became a bookkeeper with James Clark, and then she continued her career with Watts Construction in Logan, Utah. After her divorce, she moved to Saint George, Utah in 1989 to work for Richard Watts. Dawn dedicated 48 years to Watts Construction and stayed there until the company closed in 2016. Dawn continued to work for several years as a part-time bookkeeper and eventually retired at the age of 85. During her time in St. George, she made many friends, including her dear friend Dodi (Dolores) LaMont. Dawn was a fun-loving friend, mom, and grandma. She was a great writer; the funny Christmas stories that were written for Watts Construction and others were endless. We have books to prove it.
Dawn also enjoyed traveling and seeing different places. She was accompanied by friends along the way to enjoy the adventures together. Since 1993, she has lived on a golf course in St. George and enjoyed playing the sport but also walking the course and finding golf balls along the way. Anyone need golf balls? She has plenty in her garage.
Dawn is survived by her loving daughters, Tyla Darley (Brian) and Tennly Maughan (Dallan). Grandchildren Cody Darley, Ambrie Darley, Koltin Darley (Makell), and Taysia (Caileb) Lundahl. Great Grandchildren Banks J. Lundahl and Dovey M. Lundahl.
Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Earl and Marie Dorothy Leffler Baker, sisters Loa Bockholdt and Wanda Dodge.
Our family would like to thank Aegis Hospice and the Legacy House staff. We are deeply grateful for the love, support, and friendship you showed Dawn and our family.
