Duaine T Erickson, 95, of Smithfield, UT, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
Duaine was born on February 6, 1929, to John Norman and Lizette Theobald Erickson in Sutherland, UT. Duaine graduated from Delta High School in 1947 where he was active in football and basketball. Following high school, Duaine served in the North Western States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Upon his return, he graduated from Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, UT. He then attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Agronomy. While attending college he enrolled in ROTC. After graduating from BYU he served three years in the United States Air Force. Following his service to the Country he started a 40-year career with the Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Service as a soil scientist and later the Soil Conservationist for Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties. After retiring in 1993, Duaine enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. In his retirement, Duaine contributed to his community by serving on the Library Board and on the Board of the Smithfield Historical Society as well as serving four years as a Smithfield City Councilman.
In 1958, Duaine met Diana Creer in Price,UT. Duaine and Diana were sealed in the Manti Temple on May 27, 1960. They have four children, Dana (Ron) Dunford, Denae (Read) Eskelson, Darven (Crystal) Erickson, and Dolan (Linda) Erickson, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Duaine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served in many ward and stake callings including Bishop. Duaine enjoyed serving in the Logan Temple Baptistry for 20 years.
Duaine was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Norma Evans and NeRee Stanworth. He is survived by his wife, four children, and sister Marlene Ogden.
Funeral services will be held at the Smithfield 17th Ward building, 340 East 300 South Smithfield, UT, on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 at 11 AM. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30. Duaine will be laid to rest in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
