Edward G. Brown

Chief Petty Officer Edward George Brown, a veteran of the Vietnam War and former resident of Reed Point, Montana, passed away on July 25th, 2024. Edward joined the U.S. Navy on November 17, 1960. He served for 22 years until being honorably discharged and retiring from service on May 31, 1982.

Edward was born March 23, 1943, to Edward George Harrison and Thelma “Renee” (Foss) Harrison in Dover, New Hampshire. After their divorce, he was adopted at age three by his loving father Raymond Joseph Brown. He grew up at various locations being the son of a Navy man. Edward attended Radford High School in Aiea, Hawaii where he met his future wife, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.

Edward married Kristine Janell Mickel on August 15, 1963. Together, they supported each other throughout his naval career and the life that they built together with their two daughters and their son. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Boiler Technician Fireman in 1964-1965 while stationed aboard the USS Picking. He later had the opportunity to be a Navy Shore Patrolman and played softball for the All-Navy team in 1969, 1971-1973. Later in his career, he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center as a Basic “C” School Instructor when he retired. Edward enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He was an avid woodworker and could repair anything. He was a proud patriot who loved serving his country, displayed the flag daily, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Joseph Brown and Thelma Lorraine “Renee” (Foss), and father- and mother-in-law, Eugene and Janell Mickel, and grandson Edward Burke. He's survived by his children, Lorree (Wayne) Kohnen, Troy (Linda) Brown and Annjannett (Kevin Hyde) Burke, as well as seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. His family has organized a military honors ceremony to honor Edward’s life and military service, which will be held at the Hyrum Veteran’s Park in the southeast corner of the Hyrum Cemetery on August 10, 2024, at 9:30 am.
