Eleanor Burnett Datwyler

February 19, 1935 — August 4, 2024

El Dorado Hills

Eleanor Burnett Datwyler, loving wife to Darwin Reed Datwyler, of Logan passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in El Dorado Hills, California on August 4, 2024. She was 89 years old.

Ellie was the daughter of Ellis James Burnett and Gertie Matilda Child. When she was just one year old, her mother died leaving her dad to raise a baby and four older children. He later married Cora Jane Boyce who also had five kids. Ellie was now the youngest of ten.

Ellie graduated from Bear River High in Tremonton, Utah. She went on to attend Utah State. She was a Kappa Delta and had the honor of being Miss Cache Valley and first runner-up to Miss Utah. It was at USU that Ellie and Dar met. They quickly fell in love and began their 67-year marriage in the beautiful Logan Temple in February of 1955. Dar was in the ROTC and they headed off to Air Force training in Florida. And so began their wonderful life that was full of adventure. Dar decided he wanted to be an orthodontist and they spent the next six years in Cleveland, Ohio for his dental/orthodontic program. It was a busy time with school, part-time jobs, and young kids. Next, on to California. Dar began his orthodontic practice in the town of Danville, east of San Francisco. They lived in Danville for many years, and the kids did most of their growing up there. Ellie was very involved in their church, PTA, the Dental Wives Auxilary, and much more. After the family was grown, they moved to Carmel where they spent their retirement years.

If you were to ask Ellie’s family and friends to describe her the list would include: kind, generous, patient, positive, hard-working, beautiful inside and out, creative, travel enthusiast, lifelong learner, and an appreciator of art and nature’s beauty. Her life is an inspiration to all. Most of all Ellie was an excellent wife and mother, a fantastically fun grandma, and loving great-grandma, aka “Mimi”. She and Dar made a wonderful team. They loved creating experiences and memories for their immediate family, extended family, and friends. Ellie took the time to build a special relationship with each grandchild. She cared deeply for her family and everyone felt her love and support.

Ellie is survived by her four kids - Jeff (Tammy) Datwyler, Dana (Dan) Egbert, David (Jen) Datwyler, Darice (Greg) Porter - her eleven grandkids, and twelve great-grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Reed Datwyler, her parents Ellis James Burnett and Gertie Matilda (Child) Burnett, her step-mother Cora Jane (Boyce) Burnett, brothers Nolan (Joanne) Burnett, Jim (Penny) Burnett, Shirl Boyce, Bill (Jeanie) Boyce, Jack (Dorothy) Boyce and sisters Louese Burnett (Jim) Johnson, Barbara Burnett (Dean) Redford, Donna Boyce (Gordon) Worley, and LaPreal Boyce.
