Ella Ruth Smith Jones, beloved daughter, and friend, passed away at her home on Monday, March 13, 2023. Ella Ruth was born November 12, 1942 in Logan to Mardell Jones and Norma Smith Jones. Ella Ruth grew up in her grandparents' home and was surrounded by the love of her mother, grandparents, and uncles. She loved that home, where she lived her entire life. After graduating from Logan City schools, she worked at Utah State University in food service for several years.
Ella Ruth saw Logan grow and change from a small town with the nickel and dime shops to what it is today and missed those earlier days greatly. She often reminisced about taking trips to Ogden to shop with her mother and trips to California with "Mother and Uncle Max" to visit family there. She always wanted to see the ocean again. Ella Ruth loved fancy jewelry and took care to dress up for Sunday dinner. Her love for Elvis Presley, all his songs and movies, was a great delight to those who knew her and her sense of humor brought smiles to all. Ella Ruth loved animals, especially her cat, Joseph, and found joy in donating to the Cache Humane Society.
Ella Ruth did not drive and logged many miles walking to and from town, including to the Sunshine Terrace every day for many years to visit and care for her mother. Later in life, she then appreciated her neighbors and friends so much who faithfully took her to town each week so she could buy her groceries.
She was always quick to express her gratitude for the many wonderful ward members and friends who extended their hand of friendship and so selflessly touched her life in so many ways. Ella Ruth taught us all about courage by the way she faced the challenges of her life, gratitude by the way she appreciated each act of kindness shown to her, large or small, and the blessings that come when we help others. She was dearly loved by her family of friends and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services to honor Ella Ruth will be held on Friday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Logan City Cemetery.
