Garth Scott Lindsey

June 15, 1944 — April 3, 2024

Providence, UT

Garth Scott Lindsey, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on April 3, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Valencia, California after a short, very courageous battle with cancer. He was 79 years old.

Born and raised in Walla Walla, Washington he was the youngest of 6 children to Levearl and Myrtle Lindsey. Following what could only be described as an idyllic childhood growing up in eastern Washington, he graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1962 and went on to attend college at Brigham Young University, where he met his college sweetheart and future wife of 59 years, Mary Halliday. In order to earn money for school, he would return home each summer to Walla Walla during harvest time, running a farm tractor and plowing pea fields for up to eighteen hours a day. And he loved the hard work. After a relatively quick engagement, Garth and Mary married on August 25, 1964 and then two years later in 1966 he graduated from BYU with a degree in Accounting, ultimately becoming a Certified Public Accountant. After graduation, they moved to Oregon and then Washington, before relocating to Salt Lake City, UT. That’s where he began his career in the entertainment industry, landing his first job at a local TV and radio station called KCPX. After a few years in Salt Lake City, he moved his fast-growing family to Minneapolis, MN and began working for Chris Craft/United Television, which owned television stations across the country. In 1983, he and his family moved out to Los Angeles, where he served out his career as EVP and Chief Financial Officer for United Television, headquartered in Beverly Hills. He retired in 2001 at age 57.

After retirement, he and Mary moved to Port Ludlow, Washington, bought a 38-foot sailboat and pursued his passion for sailing. They had many memorable trips with loved ones, sometimes sailing up into the San Juan Islands and Canada for weeks. In 2020 they moved from Port Ludlow building a dream residence in Providence, UT overlooking the picturesque Cache Valley. The two loved taking cruises, often traveling with friends and family, to far-away ports around the world. An active and athletic person, Garth was a marathon runner and then later in life became an avid cyclist, always proud he kept up with the younger guys.

Garth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in such callings as Bishop, Stake High Counselor, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and ward choir and music director. He truly had a passion for music, singing in church choirs throughout his life. His voice was often described as "angelic." He is survived by his wife, five children, eleven grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
