Gayle Hardman passed away peacefully in her home in Hyrum Utah on June 30, 2024.
Gayle was born in a shack by the railroad tracks in Dayton Oregon to Edd Carl and Mabel Ennis Bond Hardman. She was their second daughter but JoAnn only lived a couple months, so Gayle was an only child for about 10 years when her brother David was born.
Gayle graduated from Yamhill-Carlton High School a year early at 17. Then she married Richard N. Bachmann and they had five children. Richard Wayne Bachmann of Hyrum, Iris (Rob) Liesik deceased, April (Mark) Russell of Aroura UT, Cathie (Ron) Thayer of Yuma AZ and Christi Bachmann deceased.
She and Richard divorced and she later married Artemas "Leon" DeHart from Columbia City OR and they were sealed in the Portland Oregon Temple. After Leon passed she married Daniel Vincent Topel who preceded her in death on June 12, 2024.
Gayle was an independent woman who started working at 3 years old on the farm. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a passion for Genealogy prior to joining the church. She had fond memories of working as a telephone operator starting on a switchboard prior to automation. She loved the outdoors, gardening and hiking, she climbed Mt. Hood, took skiing lessons, volunteered for the Red Cross, became a certified Hypnotist, Travel Agent, and was always interested in learning new things. She bought and sold rental properties throughout the years. And, cats she loved her cats.
Gayle is survived by her brother David Hardman of Cove Orchard OR, her son R. Wayne Bachmann, daughters April Russell, and Cathie Thayer and grandchildren Bryan Bradburn of OR, Miranda Fowler of Seattle, and Parker Thayer of Hyrum. 2 great grand daughters plus and great grand son on the way and a great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by all three of her husbands, her daughters Christi, and Iris and her grandson Tucker D. Thayer.
She will be remembered as someone who was always on the go and will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8th at 12:00 PM at the Hyrum 15th Ward Chapel, 455 East 100 South in Hyrum. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30-11:30 AM at the church. Interment will be at the Hyrum City Cemetery.
