Helen Elaine Bingham

December 3, 1939 — March 2, 2024

Helen Elaine (Pyrah) Bingham December 3, 1939—March 2, 2024, passed away after a 5-year battle with dementia. She was born to Allen Pyrah and Jean Hurst Pyrah in Hailey, Idaho, the oldest of 7 children.

She grew up on her family’s farm in Carey, Idaho where she learned the value of hard work, a love of gardening, and music. She graduated from Carey High School and completed a 2-year degree at Ricks College before serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Frankfurt, Germany Mission. Upon returning home, she continued her education at Utah State University. There, she met and fell in love with Heber Glenn Bingham Jr. and they were soon married in the Logan Temple.

She and Heber moved to Blackfoot, Idaho where they welcomed 7 children.  After 17 years in the Blackfoot area, the family moved to Wyoming. As her children grew older, Helen began working in the elementary school. She helped students with reading for nearly 20 years. After retiring, Helen and Heber served as missionaries for two years at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Religion in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Helen was a dedicated and loving mother, which she considered her most important job.  She emphasized education; reading in particular. She encouraged and supported each of her children to be their best in all they did, whether in academics, sports or music.

She cherished her family, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, music and gardening.  Some of her happiest moments were spent with her family members. Helen was devoted to the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and spent countless hours serving in many callings. She loved listening to music and attending live performances.  She loved growing flowers and gardens of all varieties wherever she lived.  She was appreciated by many for her good cooking and bread making.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Atlas Home Health and Hospice, and the wonderful staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living and Memory Care in Providence for their dedicated care of Helen.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Heber Glenn Bingham, Jr., her parents, Allen and Jean. She is survived by her 7 children, Linette (Todd) Hlavaty, Logan, UT, Ray (Susan) Bingham, Idaho Falls, ID, Richard (Rebecca) Bingham, Storm Lake, IA, Mike (Nichole) Bingham, Laramie, WY, David (Heidi) Bingham, Payson, UT, Rosie (Joe) Emmett, Powell, WY, Paul (Amanda) Bingham, Meridian, ID, 22 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, her siblings, and countless other family members.
