Dr. Kanti Shah, a beloved father, grandfather, professor, and civil engineer, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 89. He was born in India on January 6, 1935, and lived a life devoted to education, family, and his passion for civil engineering.
Dr. Shah earned his Master's degree from the University of Oklahoma and went on to complete his Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. He moved to Ada, Ohio, where he became a respected professor of Civil Engineering at Ohio Northern University. For 30 years, he dedicated himself to shaping the minds of future engineers, earning numerous accolades, including the prestigious Distinguished Professor award. He was known for his rigorous academic standards, but also for his deep commitment to his students’ success, always going the extra mile to help them secure jobs and offering guidance with a warm and generous heart. His students fondly remember him not only for his intellect but for his humor, which could bring laughter into any room.
Dr. Shah’s contributions to the field of civil engineering were far-reaching. He wrote extensively on water quality and safe engineering practices, and as a young student, he helped build bridges that would stand the test of time. His research and work have had a lasting impact on the industry and continue to influence generations of engineers.
Dr. Shah’s personal life was just as remarkable as his professional one. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Pushpa Singhal, a woman of grace and strength. Together, they built a life filled with love and respect. Pushpa, an incredible mother and wife, was his partner in all things, and they shared an enduring bond until her passing in 2017 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Shah is survived by three children, Kamal Shah (wife Anju Shah), Vim Shah (wife Sukla Das), and Shobhna Gardner (husband Tim Gardner). He leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, Nisha Shah, Alex Shah, Maya Shah, Jack Gardner, Meera Gardner, and Kallie Gardner, who carry on his legacy of hard work and the value of education.
