Korin Kanip Johnson, born Frances Kristie Jones, passed away on March 16, 2025 at her home in Richmond, Utah.
Korin was born on June 4th 1970 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lela Tabbee Horrocks (deceased) and Antonio James Kanip (deceased). After being surrendered, Korin was adopted by her parents, Majorie Jean Murray Jones and Peter Pleasant Jones (deceased).
Korin graduated from Carbon High in 1988, and was actively involved in music, playing the flute and piccolo. She also played volleyball and could've had a couple of different scholarships. She studied briefly at Utah State University, with an emphasis on music. Korin performed as a percussionist in the USU marching band. Korin was blessed with the gift of music, and taught her children from a young age to sing.
Out of high school, Korin spent some formative years as a nanny in Pittsburgh, PA. She spent her time between several families, including some families of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Korin always said that Pittsburgh is where she truly "grew up". It was here that she learned key life lessons including self reliance, child care, and homemaking.
Korin's greatest calling was that of wife and mother. Mark and Korin met in 1991 at the USU Pow Wow. They eloped and were married in Meyers, CA on October 16th 1991. Mark and Korin were later sealed in the Logan Utah temple on September 4th 1993. She was very thankful that she was raised up in the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.. she had a strong testimony.
Korin was very active in her children's lives - volunteering in school positions and acting as a teacher's aide. She was also very gifted with crafts - with safety pins, a stapler, hot glue, duct tape, or even a sewing machine, she could make just about anything.
Korin valued her family above all else, and defended them fiercely when needed. She is survived by her husband: Mark Johnson, and her 3 children: Marcquessa Johnson, Jaden Johnson, and Zakiah Johnson (Alec White). She is also survived by her siblings: Peter Jones, Tammy Curtis, Sherie Grant, and Benjamin Jones. In addition, Korin is survived by her biological siblings: Reffel Kanip, Antonio Kanip Jr., Meredith Kanip, Serenus Kanip, Kathiran Standing Rock, and Sammy Kaye. She was preceded in death by her father Peter Pleasant Jones, her biological mother Lela Tabbee Horrocks, her biological father Antonio James Kanip, her sister Terrocita Wilson, her sister Edna Jean Jones, her sister Susan Keith, and her brother Andrew "Buddy" Wilson Jr.
Though Korin struggled with her health, it never held her back from keeping a smile on her face, and trying to make memories with her family. She loved holidays, and loved making her children's birthday a special event.
Korin was known for her kind soul - with love and care for everyone who entered her life. She cared deeply about her friends and family, giving extra attention to those who needed it. She would give you the shirt off her back, if you needed it. Korin will be missed dearly by those who knew her.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for Korin's healthcare professionals, nurses, and aides, that helped her throughout the years.
