Early in the morning on October 1, 2023, our precious girl fell asleep and peacefully returned to her heavenly home. Korrie Brooke Sanders was born on October 30, 2015. Little did we know then how much she would impact the world in her short 7 years on earth.
She was always known for her bright, blue eyes and chubby cheeks. The calmest demeanor from the moment she was born. After 2 rambunctious little boys it was surreal to get a little girl. We lived in bliss for several months before we realized how unique she was. When she was 1 year old we started what would turn into 2 years of tests and scans and labs to learn more about our mystery girl. Just after her 3rd birthday we finally got the answer we already knew in our hearts. Our perfect girl had Rett Syndrome.
Over the next nearly 5 years our lives would be continually altered by her diagnosis. But she was so much more than that. She was resilient. She was a fighter. She was a world changer. Drawing everyone she met into her world with her bright and expressive eyes and peaceful spirit. You wanted to be in her presence. Through the power of social media Korrie grew quite the fan club and the best cheerleaders. People from all over the world fell in love with her. Even through a screen, you could feel how wonderful she was.
Korrie taught us all so much. She taught us to have an eternal perspective. That we can do hard things. That your life is not defined by your circumstances. Through all the struggles and trials she endured, she always came out smiling and being a calm in the midst of stormy seas.
Korrie taught us more in her 7 short years than many teach in a lifetime. And she did it all without uttering a word. How blessed we were to have her in our home and how blessed we are that she will be with us for eternity.
We want to express our deepest appreciation to the brave men and women who did everything in their power to save her. The paramedics from American Ambulance and CalFire in Fresno County, the life flight crew at SkyLIfe, the ER staff at Valley Children's Hospital. Your efforts will never be forgotten. Also to Nichols Farms in Hanford, CA for flying her to Utah in luxury. So many others.
Korrie is survived by her parents, Brooke and Eric Sanders, her siblings, Deegan, Griffin, and Charlotte. Her grandparents, Holly Tribett, Suzy and Marty Sanders. Many aunts and uncles and cousins who loved her and made her life a joy. She is preceded in death by her Papa Drew (Tribett) who we find great peace in knowing was there to welcome our girl. Oh what a sweet reunion.
