Lorna May Housley

April 17, 1938 — October 11, 2024

North Logan

Lorna May Taylor Housley was born April 17, 1938, in Delta, Utah, to Effie May King and Loren Burgess Taylor. Lorna was the firstborn of nine children. Because her mother was often ill, Lorna soon became housekeeper, cook, nurse, and another mother to her younger siblings. She was a loving, devoted daughter and sister, serving those she loved selflessly.

On June 12, 1957, Lorna married the love of her life, Norman Larry Housley, in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They had a double wedding with her sister Jene and Larry’s cousin, Milen Housley.

Lorna enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, literature, and good music. She attended Weber State College, where she majored in English and minored in Art. She also tutored and helped students with their studies. She even taught some returned missionaries how to read. She took a writer's correspondence course and earned a certificate. She liked writing short stories and poetry and loved genealogy. Lorna was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. Above all else, she enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. She gave birth to five children.

Lorna was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She was kind, loving, selfless, and accepting of others in spite of their differences. She was beautiful both inside and out and was loved by all who knew her.

Lorna died on October 11, 2024, in Logan, Utah, where she was in assisted living due to chronic illnesses. She passed away with her loved ones around her. Many thanks go to the nurses and CNAs at Maple Springs of North Logan and the Symbii Hospice staff, especially her hospice nurse, Leslie Brimhall. They did an excellent job caring for her and making her comfortable during her last months on earth.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Larry Housley; daughter Susan (Del) Rhodes; son Neil Larry Housley; daughter Tamara (Craig) Johnson; daughter Laurie (Mel) Kemp; and son Gary (Shelly) Housley; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Loren Burgess and Effie May Taylor; sisters Darlene Taylor and Corma Nicholas; and great-grandson Wesley James Payton.

She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. We take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is surrounded by family members who have gone before her. Goodbye, Lorna, ‘til we meet again.
