Norma Hendricks Kirby, October 4, 1929 – November 14, 2024.
Norma Hendricks Kirby, aged 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Colorado Springs on November 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 4, 1929, in Salem, Idaho, to John Harlow Hendricks and Thelma Egbert Hendricks. Norma was the fifth of seven children in a close-knit family. She spent her early years in the Ashton and Parker areas before moving to Grace, Idaho, where she graduated from Grace High School.
In 1947, Norma married Jay Lloyd Kirby in the Logan LDS Temple. The couple settled in Grace, where they enjoyed their life together. However, when the Shoshone Reclamation Project began in Wyoming, Jay won a lottery for land and two half barracks. They relocated to Cody, Wyoming, where they spent several years. Norma cherished life in Wyoming, but when Jay decided to reenlist in the Army, the family was stationed at various locations. Eventually, when they were assigned to Colorado Springs, they knew it was the place they wanted to retire.
Together, they raised a family of seven children: Claudette, Jan, Ann, Jay Lloyd Jr., Kathleen, John Edward, and Norman Hendricks. Norma was a devoted wife and mother, nurturing her children with love, care, and unwavering support. After the loss of her husband, Norma continued her education at El Paso Community College in Colorado Springs, earning an Associate Degree in Social Sciences.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, who passed away in 1969. Norma leaves behind a large and loving family, including 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, strength, and faith will continue to live on through her family.
Norma’s life was rich in love, faith, and family. She will be fondly remembered for her resilient spirit, kind heart, courageous faith, and her deep love for her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service to honor Norma's life will be held on November 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the family plot in Grace Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Jay.
