Norman Clain Byington

Norman Clain Byington 83 passed away October 5th, 2024, at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.

Clain was born February 17, 1941 in Preston Idaho to Norman Lorenzo Byington and Eunice Pitcher. He was the oldest of six children. Growing up in Logan, He developed a love for being outside. He learned to work the family farm and raise cattle. He was not afraid to tackle any project that was required to make the small farm a success.

He met the love of his life Linda Mendelkow while cruising Main Street in Logan. They were married on July 12, 1961 and were later sealed for Time and All Eternity in the Logan Temple on June 7, 1965. From their marriage they were blessed with five children: Sandra, Scott, Sharon, Susan, and Sheldon.

The thing he loved most was spending time with his family. He had a love of the outdoors that he shared with his family while camping, snowmobiling and on road trips in the camper. He loved going to see the Bar-J Wranglers in Jackson Hole and attended as often as he could. He had a love for old cars, enjoyed going to any car show he came across and even owned a ’67 Buick Skylark.

Clain was an employee of Logan City Solid Waste Department and retired in 2005 after a forty-year career driving a garbage truck. He received several commendations throughout his career with the city. After retirement Clain spent his time relaxing and living the quiet peaceful life he had worked hard to achieve. 

He is survived by his wife Linda, children; Sandra (David) Kurek, Sharon (Robert) Kurek, Susan (Paul) Stanley, and Sheldon Byington, daughter-in-law Debbie Byington, 16 grandchildren & 14 great-grandchildren, His mother Eunice and two sisters Una Grover and Janet Webb. He is preceded in death by his son Scott Byington, great-grandson Jacob Byington, father Norman Byington, brothers Allen and Dale Byington, and sister Ilene Bishop. 

Dad, you have left a hole in our hearts, and we will miss you more than you know. Thank you for everything you taught us and the love you generously gave.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Providence City Cemetery, 925 River Heights Blvd, River Heights, UT.  A viewing will be held prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:15 pm at White Pine Funeral Services, 753 S 100 E, Logan, Utah.
