Sherry Cottrell Tullis 1938 – 2025

Sherry, 86, of River Heights, Utah, passed away on January 17, 2025. She was born April 29, 1938 and was raised with her twin sister, Sharon, in Ogden, Utah. Sherry attended Weber State University where she met James Paul Tullis. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and raised 5 amazing children together.

In healthier years, Sherry was often found in the kitchen making something delicious, and she didn’t cook or bake on a small scale either. She would make big batches of cookies, spaghetti sauce and burritos to fill the freezer. We’re pretty sure that she made enough frozen burritos in her lifetime that she could have fed every person on the planet.

Service has always been important to Sherry. After serving as humanitarian missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Paul and Sherry opened a humanitarian center in their home. For several years, Sherry’s health prevented her from participating in the humanitarian effort, but it brought her joy knowing that volunteers consistently showed up to sew clothing, quilts, and other personal items for those in need.

Sherry was in a league of her own when it came to shopping and she had the shopping stamina of an ultramarathon runner. If she found a book she liked, she would go back and buy 10 more to give out to friends so they could enjoy it too. She also found great delight in clearance sales. If she found a 75% off bargain bin full of only left shoes, she would fill her cart to overflowing and somehow find a charity in need of left shoes!

Throughout her life Sherry enjoyed many creative pursuits such as dancing, painting, cooking, sewing, and wreath making. She was also an avid reader, devoted CNN watcher and user of scandalous quantities of paper clips.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ogilvie Cottrell, and a grandson, Eric James Tullis. She is survived by her husband, James Paul Tullis; and their children Kent Tullis (LeeAnn – former spouse), Holly (David) Shapiro, Blake (Brenda) Tullis, Mark (Krystalyn) Tullis, Ann (James) Smart, 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and twin sister Sharon (Don) Ward.

At Sherry’s request, no funeral service will be held. A public viewing will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at White Pine Funeral Services, 753 S 100 E Logan, Utah. A private family graveside service will follow the viewing. She will be interred at the Providence City Cemetery.

We cannot thank the staff at Legacy House enough for their exceptional care of Sherry and for their compassion and support for our family.
