Shirley Burris

January 6, 1936 — July 23, 2024

Logan

Shirley Jean Burris passed away peacefully at her home in Logan, Utah on July 23, 2024. She was born January 6, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Emmett Hubbard and Amy Madsen Hubbard. She was the middle of 6 children. Shirley gained a stepfather at the age of 6 when her mother married Harold Thomas Child who was a wonderful father to Shirley and her siblings. They were raised on a farm in Goshen, Idaho, and learned the value of hard work.

On October 23, 1958 Shirely was sealed to DeLoy Burris in the Logan Utah temple. Together they had four children: Kathy, Bart, Craig, and Susan. Shirley was a dedicated mother and wife and did much to serve her family over the years. She found great joy in raising her family and taking care of her grandchildren. Shirley often said her greatest joy was being a grandmother and being actively involved in their lives.

Shirley was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings. Most of her service was in the primary where she made many fond memories serving the children of her faith. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and at the time of her passing had a simple, but powerful testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and a deep love for her Savior.

Shirley valued work and spent her entire life working and bettering her corner of the world. She kept an immaculate house and yard. She also worked at the Bluebird Restaurant for 13 years. She was in charge of arranging meals for large group activities ranging from weddings, Men’s Club gatherings, and cocktail parties. Shirley also worked for the Bluebird Chocolate Factory during the Christmas rush and enjoyed the experience. Shirley referred to those she worked with as her second family and dearly loved and appreciated their friendship. Shirley also enjoyed volunteering at Logan Regional Hospital for many years. She especially enjoyed her time helping in the nursery while serving at the hospital.

Shirley is survived by her son Craig Burris (Sharie) and daughter Susan Burris Auger; her grandchildren Landyn, Hayden, Sierra (James), Brindee, Chase, Brooklyn, and Dylan; and her great-grandchildren Kaysen, Oakley, Foster, Ivory, Lillian, and Nova. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Terry Child, her sisters Janice Dye and Connie Martin, her husband Deloy Burris and two of her children Kathy and Bart, and her grandson Dalton.
