Shirley Jackson Duncan

February 24, 1931 — December 25, 2024

Shirley Jackson Duncan was born on February 28, 1931 in McGill, White Pine, Nevada. She was the third of seven children born to John Bryan and Velma Olive Robison Jackson.

Shirley attended school in Fillmore, Utah and loved learning, always. She obtained three secondary degrees from what is now Utah State University, in elementary education, secondary education and home economics. Upon graduation, she taught school in Helper, Utah for a short period of time.

Shirley was courted by Elmer Stott Duncan who proposed to her on the steps of the State Capital building in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were married on January 1, 1954.

They had three children together: Jeffrey Lynn Duncan, Kristi Duncan Priest and Melanie Duncan Brown. They moved several times during Elmer's career with the Bureau of Land Management, spending most of their later years in Moab, Utah, which they loved. In their final years, they moved to Logan, Utah to be closer to their children.

Shirley was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also held numerous church callings, and she and Elmer served a mission to the Dakota Rapid City Mission, which was a highlight of their lives. They also served in the Monticello temple for several years, which they enjoyed.

Shirley Jackson Duncan was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Stott Duncan, a grandson, David James Snell as well as a great grandson, Ezra James Snell, parents John Bryan and Velma Olive Robison Jackson, sisters Eileen Jackson and Beverely Jackson Richards (Reed), and brothers Charles Bryan Jackson (Marguerite) and Joseph Elmer Jackson (Sherrie) and a sister-in-law Patricia.

She is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Lynn Duncan (Beth), Kristi Duncan Priest (Roger) and Melanie Duncan Brown (Joe) as well as 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, She is also survived by two loving brothers, Steven Lee Jackson and James Ellis Jackson (Sherry).
