Susan Wyatt Cooley passed away on September 22, 2023 in Logan, Utah from terminal cancer, after surviving cancer 15 years prior. Susan was born in Logan on March 18, 1950 to Thomas Hall Wyatt and Isabel Riggs Olsen Wyatt, both of Wellsville, Utah.
Susan and her maternal siblings (Marlena, Jerry, Kriste, Machele) grew up in Wellsville, where they had many good neighbors, friends, and classmates. After the divorce of her parents, her maternal grandmother Annie Jones Riggs helped to raise and nurture them. Annie was a wonderful grandmother and was much loved. Susan attended Wellsville Elementary, South Cache Junior High, and Sky View High School, with her sister Kriste only one grade behind her. During high school she was active in marching band, orchestra, pep club and dance, before graduating in 1968.
On November 21, 1970 Susan married Val E. Cooley of Newton, Utah. They were married for 32 years and have 2 daughters, Alissa and Melinda, and one grandchild Serena. Susan worked at Moore Business Forms for 8 years at the Material Control Desk and as a Pricer. She worked as a Tax Preparer at H&R Block for several years, and then at the Autoliv Brigham Plant for 10 years until retiring. Susan was a League Bowler for 10 years during the 1970’s. She and her doubles partner were the Utah State Champions of 1976. During the 1980’s, she served as LDS Ward Young Women’s Secretary and President, as Stake Young Women’s Secretary, and was on the PTA at Wellsville Elementary.
Susan is preceded in death by both of her parents; sisters Marlena Olsen Bench and Kriste Wyatt Pitkin, brother Jerry Olsen, brothers-in-law Delray Bench and Marc Karpowich, sister-in-law Sherrie Olsen, niece Kaylene Bench, and grand-nieces Jenall Bench and Isabel Kriste Barfus. She is survived by daughters Alissa Cooley and Melinda Cooley, grandchild Serena Meek, former husband Val Cooley; siblings Machele Stuart Karpowich, Penny Wyatt Norman (Randall), Dewayne Wyatt, Thomas H. Wyatt Jr., Kevin Von Wyatt, Marshall Casey Wyatt, brother-in-law Steven Pitkin; and by many nieces and nephews including her special nephew Steven Bench, and lifelong friend Debra Nielsen.
As per Susan’s wishes, a simple graveside service will be held to inter her ashes on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Logan Cemetery, under the direction of White Pine Funeral Services.
