If you or someone you know has recently lost a loved one and has started looking at funeral homes in Logan, UT, there can be a large number of details that need to be planned for the services. When this is combined with the emotions that can arise after experiencing a loss, it can be confusing and frustrating at times. It is natural for grief to go in stages, so understanding what they are can be incredibly helpful, so here's more information.

The Five Stages

Grief has been said to have five distinct stages that can fluctuate and change over time. The process is different for each person, so if you support someone going through the process, being mindful to practice compassion and patience can be highly beneficial.

Denial

The first stage is called denial, and this is in place to give the individual time to process what has happened and start recognizing that there has been a loss. It allows time to look at what has happened and start figuring out how to move forward after losing the person.

Anger

Because anger can be a more socially acceptable emotion than admitting an individual is scared, this can be the next stage that comes up. The biggest problem with anger is that it can push others away, so being mindful of connecting and reaching out to get support can be highly beneficial.

Bargaining

Bargaining is a coping mechanism that individuals might use to find a source to change the circumstances. You might find an individual making promises to change behaviors or do something different to change the outcome of what has happened or what is happening.

Depression

Depression sets in once the reality of the situation is starting to set in. It can be problematic because depending on the level of depression, the individual may feel like being by themselves more, so this is another incredibly important time to have support when processing the feelings.

Acceptance

The last stage is called acceptance, and it essentially means that the pain is not gone but that the individual is accepting what has happened. There can still be sadness present, but there is an understanding that things need to continue even without the person.

Quality Through Years of Commitment to Our Clients

There is no doubt that grief is a complicated process, and it will vary depending on who the individual is. Remembering to practice self-care, kindness, and removing judgment of how things are supposed to be can be some of the best ways to help an individual through the experience.
